The National Sports Day in India is celebrated on 29 August, on the birth anniversary of hockey player Major Dhyan Chand. This day marks the birthday of Major Dhyan Chand Singh, the hockey player who won gold medals in Olympics for India in the years 1928, 1932 and 1936.The Indian Women’s Blind Football Team qualified for the World Championship held in Birmingham from 12th to 21st August 2023, and India finished fourth at the Women’s Blind Football World Championships. Indian won the first match (1-0) against Austria, lost the second (4-0) to Argentina, and concluded the group stage with a goalless draw against Germany.
The Indian women’s team finished second in Group B and qualified to the semi-finals. India lost in a sudden death penalty shootout against Japan in the semi-finals and lost in a close penalty shootout against Sweden in the third-place match after drawing goalless in full time. India finished fourth in the Women’s World Blind Football Championship, which was the greatest event for the Indian Women’s Team, who were competing in their first World Cup.The National Sports Day is celebrated to commemorate the birth anniversary of hockey legend Dhyan Chand Singh.
